We are looking for things to do and see--? |
Travel Info We are making our first trip to N Y city this summer. I am trying to plan our activities. We plan on taking the free Staten Island ferry trip. I understand the ferry passes close to the Statue of liberty. What other landmarks will we see?. Also once we reach Staten Island, is there something special that we should see? Are we allowed to just stay on the ferry and return to Manhatten if we choose? Thanks Travel Tips From the SI Ferry you can also see Battery Park, Governor's Island (see today's NY Times), Ellis Island, the Verrazano Narrows Bridge, the Bayonne Bridge, and a neat perspective on the Manhattan skyline. They will not let you stay on the same physical boat, but you can stay in the ferry terminal and head back to Manhattan within a few minutes on another ferry. It's the best deal in town. Have fun! Others Times Square is absolutely AWESOME!!!!!!! everything is there.good food, good stores, good EVERYTHING. the ferry trip is incredible. it is so comfortable and relaxing. you will enjoy it and i reccomend you ride it at night because the statue of liberty is breathtaking at night with all the lights! Also go by the twin towers. I went about 2 1/2 months ago and to experience something so major to our country was a magnificent experience i will never forget! new york is a great place to be(except for all the people). Manhatten is beautiful also. Very Comfortable settings. Have fun on your trip!! It began as a one-room farmhouse and was later transformed into a beautiful cottage in the mid-1800鈥檚 by Alice Austen's grandfather. Alice was an amateur photographer who traveled extensively. What remains are photographs documenting what she saw, and these are on display at the house. The guided tour is informative. The house is supposedly in original condition, allowing you a rare glimpse of how life used to be during those times. Snug Harbor Cutural Center, 1000 Richmond Terrace , Staten Island (New York) ,10301 , (718) 442-6112 : This is a huge cultural center, on a site which used to be the home of retired seamen. Sitting on an impressive 83 acres, this includes the Chinese Scholar鈥檚 Garden (see above journal listing), The Staten Island Children's Museum, Staten Island Institute of Arts & Sciences, a Music Hall, and a Botanical Garden, to name a few. The grounds are free for roaming around. Specific venues require small fees of $2 to $3. http://www.nyc.gov/html/dot/html/masstra... You should definitely go to Times Square while you are in New York City! It is amazing there. There are lots of restaurants and sooo many shops. |
