Jfk to midtown?

Travel Info
My hotel is just south of Central Park. I'd rather not take a cab. What's the best way to get there from JFK Airport.

Travel Tips
Take the Air-train from JFK to Jamaica. $5. Then you have 2 options:

The E train downtown (Manhattan) take elevator down to subway stop. The ride is about 40 minutes, but it drops you off very close to Central Park South. $2 (same subway ticket as the airtrain)

In Jamaica, you can take a connecting Long Island Rail Road train to Penn Station, 34th street. $5 Takes about 20 minuts, then you can transfer to the E train uptown (Queens). $2 It will take you to Central Park South. 5 minutes.

I would personally take the E train all the way from Jamaica. It's very easy.

Others
take the monorail (aka train to the plane) to jamiaca and then take the E train ask your hotel which stop is closest to them.
Take the AirTrain JFK to Jamaica Station. Then take the elevator to the Sutphin Boulevard/Archer Avenue/JFK Airport stop on the subway's E train, and take that to the stop closest to your hotel, which is probably going to the the 50th St Station (50th St and 8th Ave.)
The way described by nyc chuzpa is good. But the airbus transfer to the subway isn't fun with luggage!
Check out this link- it's a minibus that picks up a few people from the aiport and makes it's rounds to a few dif spots around midtown. For $15 you get to your door. I think the airbus is like $5-7 + subway is $2. Not much difference for the comfort of airconditioning, door-to-door and a lot less of a rude awakening! http://www.nyairportservice.com/...

This one's great too http://www.supershuttle.com/ .

Don't fall for the cab rides. Anything's better than being clipped for $50 as soon as you step off the plane!
mean streets of nyc
Hop on the JFK monorail to Jamiaca Station, then take the Lirr to Penn. It lands at 34th street which is midtown. You could walk or take a subway depending on your mood and the day . I wouldn't mess with a cab. The monorail is $5 per person and the train is less than $8 if you pre purchase the ticket at a booth.
