Im traveling to NY this summer...any tourist ideas? |
Travel Info we are staying in times square... i would really love to go to central park and i want some shopping, as well as meusuiums...and sugestions?? Travel Tips Grouped by areas to save on travel time: Lower Manhattan: World Trade Center site; boat to Ellis Island and Statue of Liberty (same boat, one price, start early as LONG lines form); stock exchange; Chinatown (eat at Wo Hop on Mott Street); South Street Seaport Midtown: theater district (good restaurants on many side streets); Empire State Building; Fifth Avenue from 47 to 58 Street for window shopping or even real shopping; United Nations (gift shop is wonderful for souvenirs); FAO Schwartz (giant toy store with ice cream parlor) Uptown: Central Park and Zoo; Metropolitan Museum of Art; Guggenheim Museum; Museum of Natural History/Rose Space Center Way UPtown: The Cloisters (most beautiful spot in NYC and fascinating museum); Dyckman House Museum (British Army HQ in the Revolution) Bronx: Zoo; Botanical Garden; Walt Whitman Home Brooklyn: Aquarium; Coney Island Queens: Bowne House (stop on the underground railroad, good places to eat within a couple blocks); Quaker Meeting House (where the Flushing Remonstrance was issued); Flushing Hall of Science and adjoining zoo Staten Island: Jacques Marchais Tibetan Museum (only Tibetan Museum in the USA); Conference House (site of only peace conference during the Revolution, two on the American side were John Adams and Ben Franklin) Others Lots of the tourist attractions have long waits, so here are some no wait free ideas. Walk thru Central Park, Rockefeller center, Times square, visit Little Italy, Chinatown, Grenichvillage. I enjoyed checking out all the stores on 5th ave and all the buildings around Wall Street. These all require a lot of walking but are free and free of the long lines at the Empire State Building, the Museums, Statue of Liberty and ect. Some non touristy food ideas: take the subway out to Coney Island and get some Nathans Famous Hot Dogs In Little Italy try Lombardi's Pizzeria (its Americas first pizza place) In mid town try Patsy's Italian (It was Frank Sinatra's favorite place, just make reservations they book up fast), also Sparks Steak house in mid-town. (it has great food and was also the location where John Gotti had his boss killed) |
