Go see a show on broadway - something you really want to see and are excited about. Go to SoHo. Walk through Central Park. Go eat at a NY deli, and order your favorite cold cut sandwich... they're amazing. There are restaurants galore in NYC, so it really depends on how much money you want to spend. I recommend buying Michelin's Guide Book to NYC - they have maps as well as recommendations and cost. ENJOY!!!
go to central prak and to the meat packing district you'll have fun
New York in August is hot and humid. There's lots of free entertainment -- there are free movies in Bryant Park on Monday nights and a smattering of free concerts, Shakespeare, and opera in Central park -- but I'd have an air-conditioned back up plan (like a museum) if it gets really gross out. Or, to be different, come on out to Brooklyn. Take the 2 or 3 train to Grand Army Plaza and visit Prospect Park, the Brooklyn Museum, the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, or shop in Park Slope. (I live right near there, it's a great neighborhood.)
go shopping, site seeing, and go to of the empire state building, they have city tours on those big red buses where you sit on top and they show you everything around the city all over new york, and a horse buggy ride through central park, and see the central park zoo, see a show there are so much to do there. Have fun!!!!!
If your a big shopper it is super fun to go to Chinatown (Canal St.), and Uptown/183 Street by St. Nicholas is the Dominican/Puerto Rican neighborhood and has some okay shopping, try "La Caridad" restaurant for excellent Puerto Rican food.
