Taxi Cab: Which direction should I tell him to take? |
Travel Info Just to avoid taking advantage by a Taxi cab driver, what direction should I tell him to take me to get to my hotel faster and the least expensive? My hotel is next to Carnegie Hall. Travel Tips Do it the normal way ;Grand Central to Hoyt Ave make a left on 31st go under the El to Queens Plaza over the 59th St. Bridge and straight across town I love the Triboro as much as the next guy but in this case it's a 7 mile plus detour + $ 4.50 in tolls and since I don't know her flight time I don't know if there is any real advantage to using it. If she is going to use it then the correct directions are: Triboro to FDR South exit @ 96th ST Straight across town and thru the Park Left on Central Park West Around Columbus Circle To 7th Ave South Hotel is within a block or two Exiting the FDR on 63rd negates any advantage of using the Triboro bc you still have to get across town which as we all know can be a slow process. The secret to driving to and from places in Manhattan is to make time and distance along the edges and then get into the middle as late as possible. Ultimatley all routing decisions in NYC are based upon time of day Source(s): Native -used to drive commercial vehicles in NYC Other Travel Tips I wouldn't worry so much about getting taken advantage of by a taxi driver. Even if he took you out of the way, it would only mean an extra $5 or so to him and that's not worth his time. Just tell him where you need to go and they'll take you there. The cab driver isn't going to waste his time. Grand Central to Triboro to East River Drive to 63rd St. The most direct way is to take the Triboro Bridge to the FDR Drive. If you get in the cab and tell him the address of your hotel just say "Can you take the Triboro to the FDR?" and it should not be a problem. If there is a lot of traffic, the driver may want to drive over to the 59th Street Bridge, which will take a lot of side streets and not seem as direct. Once you get off the FDR, there are a lot of options as far as which streets to travel on, but the driver will probably go right across 57th Street, or possibly take a side street and go up Central Park South. |
