Coney Island ? |
Travel Info a few questions, I think it was here where I read Coney Island was closing soon, is it closing this year? what about by subway..is there a stop near it?, can you get off the subway and be within walking distance to Coney? And is it worth seeing etc Travel Tips The following subways go to Coney Island - it's the first/last stop. Most of the ride in Brooklyn is out of doors, so take a different train back - you'll get to see more of Brooklyn, as the different trains pass through different neighborhoods - you can take the Q, B, N or F train. Nathan's is across the street from the train (the station was redone recently - lots of interesting artwork) The subway is one block from Totonno's pizza - second best pizza in the entire City - on Neptune and 15th Street. This is the last summer for Coney Island as we know it. A good deal of Surf Avenue (the main drag where Nathan's and The Cyclone are) will be torn down at the end of the season to make way for condos and shopping malls. The mayor says there will be a double decker carousel and new rides. Nathan's and the Cyclone didn't sell, so they'll still be there, but there are already huges holes where other buildings stood. Coney Island has so much New York history, it's very worth seeing - so much to do - see the New York Aquarium and watch the penguins and see the sealion shows, ride the Cyclone (largest wooden roller coaster), see Brooklyn's minor league team, The Cyclones play a baseball game in the new Keyspan Park, walk on the boardwalk, go to the beach, see a sideshow. Also, Coney Island is a terminal point with about a dozen buses starting there, so it's easy to get to other parts of Brooklyn. The B64 takes you directly to the Brooklyn Century21 - same bargains, crowded, but nothing like the Manhattan branch. The B68 takes you to Prospect Park and Park Slope. We are going to miss Coney Island. I have such great childhood memories. Others Yes, it's closing this year (so I've been told). Yes, there's a stop near it and you're in walking distance. I would like to see it for historical reasons, I mean it's not what it used to be. Coney Island was place to be back in the late 30's and 40's. My dad would really like to see it too. Coney Island is not closing. The neighborhood will just be undergoing some big changes over the next few years, that's all, including the closing of Astroland park. Old standbys like the Aquarium, the beach, Nathan's, the Cyclone, and the Wonder Wheel WILL remain. The Brooklyn Cyclones will still play in Coney Island. There are numerous subway stations within walking distance. The D, F, N, and Q all terminate at Coney Island - Stillwell Avenue. For more info, look at http://www.mta.info its still open. it closes after the summer stay on the boardwalk bc the beach is mad dirty the train is directly across the street u can take the b, d or the f to coney island. they have a lot of games, rides and foods. i liked it when i went. nathans is there too and alots of different candy. Other answerers have given great narrative descriptions of Coney I but their subway directions risk getting you lost. The B train terminates at Brighton Beach and does NOT go to Coney Island. Your options are the D, N, Q, or F. www.mta.info and personal experience |
