What are Northeastern summers like? |
Travel Info How high do temperatures usually get? I heard it gets very muggy with humidity? Travel Tips I live in the state of Delaware, which is really considered the mid-atlantic area, however we're very similar in climate. The summers here as in NY, are very hot and humid. Sometimes the humidity is so bad that you cannot see a mile away. The haze is really bad. If you are planning to come to this or the NY area, I would recommend that you come prepared for temps in the upper 80's& 90;s. Sometimes the temp top's 100. The night's sometimes are actually comfortable. You may even need a sweater. I hope you enjoy your stay here. Others New York hit 95F two days ago. Yesterday we had a couple thurnderstorms, and the temperature dropped to 76F today, which was quite pleasant. Generally August is NYC's worst month, when heat waves (defined as at least three consecutive days of 90+ temps) can last for as long as ten days. Because NYC is a port (four of the five boroughs are on islands) humidity is normally fairly high, and in heat waves can be very oppresive. On top of this, when winds are from the west, NYC can be afflicted with air pollution from the oil and chemical plants in New Jersey, which were cleverly placed not to bother anyone in the state where they were located. It depends where you are, Maine is obviously FAR colder than Pennsylvania. NYC summers are burning hot in the summer and freezing cold in the winter. |
