Taking a car into NYC? |
Travel Info My boyfriend and I are going to a Dispatch concert in Madison Square garden and we're trying to figure out if we want to take a car into the city or hop a bus. What's the typical rate for parking at a hotel in NYC? Are there any safe options for leaving your car just outside the city and taking an alternate mode of transportation in? If so, what are they, their rates, and is there an extra charge for the lot you leave your car in? Thank you so much for taking the time to answer. :) Travel Tips Since you are coming from Binghampton, I do not know if there is a train that still runs into Manhattan from there (back in the old days, yes, but now, idk) There is a train line that is located on the East Side of the Hudson that runs from Poughkeepsie or Albany into Manhattan I believe. However, that train line goes to the east side of Manhattan (Grand Central Station) rather than the West Side (Penn Station / MSG) I would go online and look at the metro north rail road schedules to see if thats feasible. There are trains that run on the west side of the hudson that may or may not reach Binghampton, but i wouldnt put much faith into that option. Another choice is a bus, which would go to the Port Authority Bus Terminal which is located across 8th avenue from MSG. Check your local schedules to see which one goes to NYC (all buses usually terminate at the port authority) You can always drive it and park your car at one of the many garages, but expect to pay something like $10-12/day if not more (depending on which part of the city you are in). Your best bet would be to either catch a train straight to Penn Station or drive your car to NJ or Queens and park it near a mass transit hubb garage and then use the subway for your stay here. Hope this helps Source(s): native Other Travel Tips I would definitely take a train or bus into the city, especially if you are going to MSG. The train goes right to Penn Station which is under MSG. Idk about busses. Parking would run u upwards of $25 plus gas & tolls. The streets are very narrow there and your hair might get clipped and scratched up. Not only that but parking there is insane! Your car may be parked on the street and I can pretty much already tell you be careful because chances are someone might block you in,and when you want to leave it will be very hard. And the prices are insane! It all depends where you park it though. Have fun and good luck! (: Hayley1125@yahoo.com i go to new york city a lot. It would be nice knowing what your starting point is before we grace with the gift of our collective NYC wisdom. Get back to us OK we back . I'm going to send you to the Staten Island Ferry and then the #1 train from South Ferry to 34th st/Penn Station I'm increasing the distance but decreasing travel time and also reducing the possibility of you guys screwing up the directions. Here's how it's done; Get a roll of quarters before you leave home you'll need them for SI parking I-81 S>I-381 s >I-80 E >I-287S to the end at Rt 440/Perth Amboy NJ Over Outerbridge Crossing pay $6.00 toll N.on 440 about 8 miles two lane exit right to I-278 E following signs for Verrazano Bridge Use the last exit before the Bridge -Bay St note : When the VZ takes up the sky , make sure that you're in the far right lane left on Bay under the bridge and follow it around until you get to the Ferry dock at St George Take the free Ferry one note : on the way home make sure you use 440 South not 440 north .440 N happens about 1.5 miles before 440 S happens I wouldn't bring the car into the city - hotels won't allow non-guests to park, and garages can run up to $100 a day. There's park and rides all over Orange County which is a nice stopping point from Binghamton - and the bus is a LOT cheaper- and there's no charge to park. (www.coachusa.com) |
