What is a zip code?

I am trying to book a holiday to New York and the address of the hotel is Gateway Center Raymond Boulevard
NEWARK, NJ 07102-5107 US what part is the zip code? as when I enter the bottom bit NJ etc it is not a vaid code what bit should I be entering?

I agree with noble savage. The first five digits are the zip code and the last four just narrow it down some how.
