What part of New York is considered Upstate New York? |
Travel Info What part of New York is considered Upstate New York? Travel Tips It depends on who you ask. "Upstate" could be a direction (if you said, "I'm driving upstate," it means you're driving northward). A lot of people in New York City refer to everything north of the city as upstate, but my roommate, from Rochester, says upstate is really the northern half of the state, anything above, say, Binghamton. Others I would guess places in the north of the state such as Buffalo and Syracuse ANY part that ISN'T NYC! Anywhere north of Westchester County, generally. Although some people in Putnam, Duchess, and Rockland don't consider themselves "upstate." its actually anything north of the hudson valley so yes dutchess and putnam and rockland are not up state or even orange county isnt upstate ny , why do people from westchester think they dont live upstate their are more remote parts of westchester and little bumble f towns in westchester than rockland , rockland is more urban than westchester as a whole all you guys have is yonkers and mt vernon thats it the rest is in the woods It depends on who's speaking...many NYC residents I know would say anything north of the Bronx, whereas I know other folks in Ithaca who would question whether that's upstate... I always considered anything north of the Bronx, 'upstate'. but I'm sure the folks who live in Westchester don't really consider themselves upstate. I guess I kind of look at it like - if the subway can't get you there and you need to either drive or take a metro-north train, then that's upstate. |
