Do they allow tourists to go to the top of the Satue of Liberty?

Travel Info
I'll be in NYC in October, and thought I'd like to visit the Statue of Liberty.

And yet another completely useless and uninformed answer from Tigger. You cannot go to the top of the Statue of Liberty and the Staten Island Ferry does not drop you off on Liberty Island. There is a separate ferry that goes to Liberty Island; it costs about $8. There can be a very long wait for the next boat since they crowd up quickly. If you get to Liberty Island early (on the first boat out) you can get a special pass that will allow you to go up into the pedastal, but you can't climb up in the Statue itself. There also can be a very long wait to get on a boat to take you off the island.

Instead, take a ride on the Staten Island Ferry - it's free, it's a nice ride - about an hour round trip and it passes close enough to the Statue for you to take some great pictures. You'll also get a great view of the Manhattan skyline.

When I was in the fourth grade, we took a Class Trip to the Statue of Liberty and climbed up to the crown (my mother told me she went with her class and climbed into the torch, but that was closed before I was born). It wasn't a pleasant climb - narrow staircase, one-way so you couldn't turn around and go back down when you wanted to and it was hot and stuffy. Kids were crying and screaming, the teacher had her hands full. When we finally reached the crown, there were windows - and all we saw was water.

Try the Staten Island Ferry ride first, and if you don't think you've seen enough of the Statue, then, go to Liberty Island.

yeah u can go up if u get the ferry 2 staten island. they stop at the island where Lady Liberty stands and u can climb up 2 the top if u want.
Not any more. Structural defects are effectively reducing the loads that they will allow in the upper areas of the arm.
Everything above the pedestal has been closed to the public since 9/11, however, efforts are being made to re-open the crown, possibly after making people go through metal detectors.
The boat to the Statue also stops at Ellis Island--one price for both, but VERY long lines form. The Staten Island ferry does NOT go to the Statue.
Not anymore. You are only allowed to go up into the pedestal. Since 9/11 the statue's crown has been closed to the public, the arm and the torch have been closed for years because too much weight and too many visitors have put the arm in danger of falling off or something.
