When in New York City? |
Travel Info Is it faster to walk or drive in the city? Travel Tips I would say between 11pm-6am it's faster to drive since buses and subways run on a less frequent schedule. But the time savings of driving has to be weighed against the hassles of finding parking. Although most of NYC is served pretty well in the daytime by buses and subways, there are still some places like northeastern Queens or the far west side of Manhattan where there are gaps in public transportation coverage. It would sometimes make sense to drive, especially if carrying shopping or packages. Probably anywhere less than 30 blocks from where you are at the moment will be faster/easier to walk unless there's a direct bus/subway. Others No, it's the same as other cities. New York city is not special. i live in nyc and definitely walking. theres always traffic in manhattan, and theres so many one way streets. its impossible. in most areas of queens (and basically the other 3 boroughs) its easier to drive. |
