Why do people stereotype that you MUST be rich in NYC, or else you won't survive? |
Travel Info I lived in NYC for 8 mos. & I've seen more poor & homeless people than ever. People living on trains, staying in shelters, & living with roommates. I, myself stayed in shelters. & in NYC, why do they link homelessness to mental illness? They think you gotta be mentally ill to be homeless. & they're QUICK to call that mental illness BIPOLAR or SCHIZOPHRENIA. Even if the person is just simply depressed. Of course being homeless would make a person depressed! Travel Tips You're right about the fact that mental illness would be over-represented in the homeless, not due to anything biological, but purely circumstantial. However, I don't know if I would call being poor or homeless as making a living in NYC. That's merely existing. You have to make a lot of money to live in NYC, and by living there I mean off the streets, because the prices of apartments are so high there. I wouldn't even consider slumming it on the streets as an option anywhere, including NYC. That is probably why people become confused about people with less money living there, because most people would choose to live in an area that is within their financial means. Others i agree with you just move along and don't pay attention to ppl who stereotype The Liberals love to convince America that homelessness is not their fault and that they have no choice because they are mentally ill. The fact is, most homeless are there by choice and feel more comfortable in that lifestyle. that's not true I'm not rich and i live here and i have a nice life in some parts you do need money like on the east side of Manhattan or central park west are really rich areas but its not true not in all places of new york and its kinda easy to get a job in NY too make a friend and ask him if he knows a place were u can work NY is made of possibilities |
