Why there are more homeless in NYC than few years ago? Why can't we send them somewhere else? |
Travel Info NYC needs to run them out. Like Guilliani did. Travel Tips The reason that there is more homeless in NYC than a few years ago is the same reason people aren't buying things like they used to and travel is at all time low. Prices are going up and pays are not. So people can't afford homes and the companys are conslidating which means layoffs. Others Where do you suggest we send them? Your house? 911 maybe???A lot of people were displace as well as mental damage. Some of them may even work with the F.B.I. under cover. This I vote as "The ignorant comment of the day!" How would you feel if you were homeless and someone stated this about you? Don't say it could never happen to you, because granted there are many people on the streets with addictions you can't stereotype and say that is WHY they are homeless. Some start out with drugs as a way to cope and unfortunately can turn into a vicious cycle that I can only imagine is difficult to get out of. Now how does it help when cops arrest them for sleeping under a bridge? Pay $30.00 dollars to get out of jail - then $30.00 in fines. That is $60 dollars out of a very shallow pocket and yet they are supposed to "learn there lesson" and drag themselves out of poverty. Yet they were just knocked down a peg? Arresting is NOT the answer! There are so many that need help. Why not instead of complaining about this try and donate money to good causes to help these people instead of judging them. I got a different perspective of street people from the book by John Grisham "The Street Lawyer". So above what I just wrote, isn't original however it makes a lot of sense! Start trying to help the problem, not become a new one! They tried that, but the residents of Camp Laguardia in Orange County caused too many problems, (assaults, rapes, etc.) so Orange County sent them back! How about you adopt them all and the problem will be solved! Clearly the economy (rising prices, same or lower incomes) is part of the reason for more homeless people. But most likely there were just as many displaced people then as there are now -- it's probably more a matter of the local government not 'relocating' them. "Running them out" is certainly not the answer ... and relocation is a purely temporary solution (even if it is the "answer" chosen by local police/government). Perhaps you'd prefer living elsewhere, where the homeless population is lower. To quote the comedian Myran Cohen, "Everybody's got to be someplace." Since homeless people, by definition _don't have a home_, they are going to live in public spaces. You no longer can go live in the woods and be a hunter/gatherer, so you go where there is the greatest chance of getting food, the city. |
