Niagara Falls -- Which side is nicer...NY or Canada? |
Travel Info Just wondering about attractions and hotels at Niagara Falls. Which side is nicer, cleaner etc. Also, is it easy to go back and forth from US side and Canada side if we stayed on one side but wanted to see things on the other, is it a hassle? Travel Tips I personally think the Canadian side is better. I live not far from there and have been to both sides several times. The US side is a national park and has alot of protected areas and not as many attractions, therefore, alot of walking. The Canadian side is packed full of attractions and has many more hotels and shops etc but of course, less green space. If you're coming to the falls for green space, go US side. If you're coming for stuff, go Canadian side. Also wanted to point out, you can't see the entire falls from the US side. Regardless of where you go or stay, you'll have to go Canadian side inorder to see them. The falls wash over the cliffs but are really only entirely visable from the Canadian side. You can step back and see their true size and glory from that side. On the US side and Canadian side there are opportunities to get close with attractions, board walks etc. I think for hotel choices and price especialy if looking for ones that over look the falls, you're best to go Canadian side. As far as ease of passage, if you have passports it's a piece of cake. Otherwise you'll need photo ID and birth certificates for EVERYONE travelling with you. Also wanted to point out you're going between countries. Wait times vary, inspections vary etc. Bringing anything such as fire arms, medications, mobile homes, a large amount of luggage or goods and the like will hold you up in processing through customs. If you have any children travelling you require documentation for them also. Also noticed your clean question, as it's all tourist area, both sides are clean... never seen any problems on either side. Best of luck where ever you stay. Others CANADIAN!!! there are really nice hotels, lots of scenery, beautiful drive, much better view of the Falls! The canadian side is nicer ( better view/more things to do ), but in the last few years it's also gotten to be much more expensive for americans because the exchange rate has gone down so much. It is really simple to cross, you can walk across the rainbow bridge a few hundred feet from the falls probably with only your drivers license but take birth certificates as well. I don't know your situation ( how many people are going, the ages or what you want to do ) but basically i'd suggest that it would be cheaper to stay on the U.S. side and walk/drive across to canadian side for the day(s). But the experience will likely be better ( and a little more expensive ) if you stay on the canadian side near clifton hill or in the fallsview casino area. hope that helps The Canadian side of Niagara Falls is definitely the place for hotels and attractions, but it is also much better for actually viewing the Falls. For one thing, you can only see the American side of the Falls from the Canadian side - so if you don't go to Canada, you're missing out on that opportunity. You can see all of the Falls from the Canadian side, so it is no coincidence that most of the hotels and attractions are on that side, too. Been there, done that. Canadian side is by far the nicer of the two Hi, i have seen the falls from both sides. The Canadian side is much better. Have a nice trip, and welcome to Canada. As far as crossing the border, if you are a US citizen with propper ID, its not a big deal. You can drive or walk across with no problems. |
