Debating on going to Niagra Falls? |
Travel Info I have a job where I get really bored so lately I've been thinking about where my husband and I can spend our 1 year anniversary. We'll be on a tight budget and are within driving distance of Canada so I'm debating between Quebec City or Niagra Falls. I'm looking for pros and cons of both. Also if we go to Niagra Falls should we stay on the U.S. side or the Canada side? Any stories of experiences are much appreciated. Thanks! Travel Tips Don't forget your American dollar is worth more in Canada, so you get a bigger bang for your buck and it's much cleaner, cheaper and safer in Canada than Niag. Falls NY. . Also the best view and best of the 2 falls is the Canadian falls. It's really not all that expensive in Canada and most of the sightseeing (other than behind the falls, Arial car, & Maid of the mist) is free to look. Don't forget to take the scenic drive along the Niagara River Parkway to old Niagara or Niagara on the Lake. Along the way you will pass through the old village of Queenston and see General Brock's Monument. It's a huge tower that you can climb (like the statue of liberty) small cost and you can see for hundreds of miles. Niagara on the Lake is one of the oldest towns in North America. The town goes back to before the war of 1812 with the British. There are lots of quaint little shops to look in and an old British wooden fort called Fort George that do re -enactments and you can tour(not free). Pick up some charcoal and food at a supermarket (it's cheaper) and have a barbeque along the Niagara river Parkway. There are barbeques and picnic tables along the parway (FREE) This part of Canada grows lots of fruit, and you will be driving along the Parkway with the view of the river on your right and orchards and vinyards and fruit stands on the left. Winery tours abound and most are free (they want you to buy and take home their wine and it is good) Of course there are all kinds of childrens and family amusements and 2 Casino's in Niagara Falls Falls to spend money on. But SEEING Niagara falls, the flower gardens, the mist from the falls, the parkway, Queenston, Niagara on the Lake, it's back streets, seeing old Inns, houses, beautiful scenic walks etc. is ALL free. You may even want to stay in Niag. on the Lake, it's quieter, prettier, more romantic, and only 12 miles down river from the falls. Tourism is down this year so the deals are out there...check the net. Hope I was of some help?....have a great holiday Others I've never been to Quebec City but I really enjoyed Niagara Falls. You can buy a package ticket that gets you a ride on the Maid of the Mist, a walk behind the falls, and access to the trail along the rapids. There are plenty of other things to see and do as well, and I would stay on the Canadian side. YOU KNOW WHAT NEITHER, EVEN THOUGH BOTH ARE GREAT AND BEAUTIFUL PLACES, VERY TOURISTY AND HIGH PRICED. I SUGGEST OTTAWA THE CAPITAL OF CANADA AND THEN ON TO MONTREAL IN QUEBEC WHICH IS AN HOUR AND HALF FROM OTTAWA AND LOCATED ON THE US CANADIAN BORDER. EITHER WAY WELCOME AND I HOPE YOU ENJOY YOURSELF ANYWHERE YOU CHOOSE TO GO. oh yeah happy anniversary. Niagara Falls is a great honeymoon destination. We celebrated our 24th anniversary at Niagara. Stay on the Canadian side; we stayed at the Marriott, but there are many smaller hotels and motels that are little less expensive. Do stay close to the Falls because traffic is terrible and it is so much fun to walk everywhere. All the businesses on Clifton Hill are so cheesy, but they are so much fun! Buy a parks pass and you can hop on one of the buses and go to many of the attractions. One neat thing we did was walk across the Rainbow Bridge and walk to the United States. Just be sure to take your I.D. with you because you will go through Customs. On the U.S. side you can walk to Cave of the Winds. Stay on the Canadian side, enjoy all the attractions at Niagara, and you will have a wonderful one year anniversary. Happy Anniversary! |
