What is a canadian broker?

Travel Info
We are crossing the border with some music equipment for two days then coming back to the states and were told we nee to hire and pay for a broker to work with customs

Travel Tips
I don't think you need a broker. You don't intend to sell the equipment in Canada? Are you coming to Canada to be paid for using the equipment? Then it might be different. This link should help you.

Other Travel Tips
You only need a broker if you are going to sell or leave the products in the country. Same if you were going to the States. If you have sold the equipment to someone in Canada the broker will clear the equipment for you with customs.
