I've been thinking that it's time to rename Kissimmee, Florida.? |
Travel Info Kissimmee now known for it's huge Puerto Rican population which makes up more than 50% of the total population - the concentrated number of Puerto Ricans there is higher than anywhere else in the world, with the exception of Puerto Rico itself. Kissimmee is pretty ugly sounding, and I propose renaming it "Nuevo San Juan" as an hommage to it most populous residents. Any other suggestions as to good names? Anything, it doesnt have to be Hispanic sounding! Travel Tips I am a native of Kissimmee, one of the few still here. My father's family was one of the original families to settle in Kissimmee from Georgia. Changes in the makeup of a population does not equate to the renaming of a city. As someone else pointed out this city was named by the Seminole Indians and they were here before anyone else arrived. Changing the name of Kissimmee would be wrong. Others if you do that, you`ll have to rename alot of places. next they will try to rename the hamptons..."rich white people ville" How about Kissimmeemybutt? aww i don't think kissimmee sounds ugly it actually sounds cute. especially that commercial where that little kid tries saying kissimmee and it sounds kind've like "kiss me" he sounds soo adorable. i like the name kissimmee it sounds unique and interesting I'm not personally familiar with Kissimmee, but I suspect it has some significance to the area. I'm afraid a LOT of people would be unhappy if it were renamed - no matter what you changed it to. Kissimmee is named for the NATIVE AMERICANS who inhabited the area for centuries before the arrival of the whites, or puerto ricans. If you want to live in San Juan, go back to the Caribbean! The homage is to the people who formed the area, and should not be altered to reflect the people who THINK they have superiority. I think because of it's high attraction to tourists it is not a good idea to rename it as it will only cause confusion. |
