What to expect when moving to Tampa, Flordia?

Travel Info
Hi everyone. My 87 year old Grandma is sick and not doing well...being that I am the only Grandkid I have offered to move from Las Vegas, NV to Tampa or Clearwater, Flordia so I can help her out.
I have questions about the move so any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated....

--What is the job situation out there? Is unemployment high?

--Do you need good credit to get an apartment there?

--Are people there nice?

Thats all I can think of for now. I don't want the be the guy who posts 20 questions in one category so I'm trying to eliminate that now. Feel free to email me too with more information. Thank you, again.

Best,
NEO

The unemployment in Pinellas county (clearwater) is arond 3%.
So job market is great - what do you do?

The one thing about apts is that I would just make sure that they dont go condo, as it seems all apt complexs are doing these days.....

People here are nice! Just remember that you are now going to be in retirement-ville, so be prepared for people to DRIVE SLOOOOOOOOOWWWWWW...... Source(s): I'm a recruiter

What is the job situation out there?
lots of jobs but not neccasarly lots of high paying jobs or jobs with benefits.

Is unemployment high?
No
--Do you need good credit to get an apartment there? Yes well at least a good one in a nice area.

--Are people there nice? For the most part yes
Florida has low unemployment because people have more than one job to pay the bills so that sucks up available work.Tampa has plenty of back office, some college,"pink collar" type jobs.Nurses are in demand because they get training and experience here then move back up north for better pay.The business community is aware of the cost of living and provides enough pay so that you will show up for work but that is about all.One tactic they practice is not to require a college degree so they can pay less but the training requires college level intelligence.People are nice here because they work in the service sector where that trait is cultivated.

Housing is priced like a commodity and valued based on minute details of location, age, market demand, distance from a Starbuck's exactly like an antiques roadshow appraisal.Your credit score will determine where you live like your intelligence score determines how much you earn. You will be judged on your shoes and your haircut since everything here is a commodity from labor to housing so you will be a commodity also.Florida is a deregulated place so it attracts predators but the nice people here do not let that spoil their day.Tampa is like a biology experiment where the bacteria consume everything in the flask as fast as possible then die.
There are job openings but I don't know what kind of work you do. If it's construction, those jobs have been disappearing. Continental was hiring reservations people here last month. I don't know if they are still looking. I suggest you put your resume together and use your grandmother's address on it and fax it to employers in your field. You can use yahoo yellow pages to find the companies. You do need good credit. There are condos for rent on www.tampa.craigslist.org as a lot of people speculated and are having trouble selling them and want to rent them. You can check that out. I would stay with your grandmother until you find a job. People are exceptionally friendly here.
The traffic,I lived in Tampa when I was younger. I have family that still live in the Tampa area.
Tampa is a nice area. you always need good credit to get a decent apartment and that's not specific to florida. there are a lot of jobs but keep in mind our pay rates seem to be lower than other parts of the country. why? b/c there is a lot of cheap and illegal labor here-if you get my drift
