Is it true that not everyone can afford Disney World vacation? |
Travel Info Given if you are not living in Florida, with all those air tickets, admission tickets, resort, and food etc. What about compare to other regular vacations, why Disney World vacation seems like a bigger deal than other gerenal vacations? Travel Tips IF someone truly wanted to take a vacation (to anywhere) they could manage it....(provided they have some type of income and we aren't talking homeless people) For many years (over 25!!) My sister and her family would travel (often to Disney World) and they would ask me and my family to go. We never seemed to have any money, so we always said "no". I finally broke down and my son & I joined her in 2004. I am no better position financially than I was 20 years ago, (in fact, I have many more financial responsibilities NOW) but we went.....and have gone 3 more times since-TWICE last year!!!! I can't believe that I passed up on such a good time so often! I don't care now if I had to walk the 1500 miles to get there, I would go every year!!! I don't go into debt for our vacations, I save up all year! You can have a really NICE vacation without going overboard with spending! Others me no no 2 years ago I traveled from Pennsylvania to Orlando. 2 kids under 10, my husband and myself. We stayed in a time share given to us, so we didn't pay for lodging...we ended up spending 5000.00 on the trip...meals, rental car, tickets to Disney for 4 days. EXPENSIVE!! It's cheaper to travel outside the US. If your kids are old enough, check out a Caribbean vacation. All inclusives are GREAT. www.applevacations.com I've used them several times, gone to several different islands. Comparitively it is cheap. People don't go to Disney because it is inexpensive. Orlando is an expensive city to see regardless. But, people go to Disney because it is one of the most family-friendly attractions that you can go on. Mom and Dad can let the rides "entertain the kids". Also, in Orlando, almost everywhere, they have dealt with so many tourists that although there are lines, they have come up with all sorts of ways to handle the lines more quickly. So, you get to see more in less time. I live in Florida, but I've never used any free tickets because usually they are tied to some yak mouth condominium salesperson who wants you to tour their particular version of shangri la. You'd be better off trying to get a multi day pass so that you can go to all the parks and leave them as you wish. If you want to cut down on the expense, try some "free" or "less expensive" attractions (Cape Canaveral, the Beaches, St Augustine are all within an hour or two). Well...I'm sure it is for some. I know we couldn't afford it for the first 10 years of our marriage. But it's definitely worth saving up for! Disney isn't so much a vacation as it is an "experience". I grew up watching the "Wonderful World of Disney" and "The Mickey Mouse Club". The Disney parks bring it all to life, and the cast members DO make dreams come true every day. I go through those gates and I'm a little girl again. It is truly one of the only places on earth where there is NO discrimination of any kind - everybody is treated like they are special. I see the smiles on the faces of all of those beautiful children and a joy & wonder that reaches their eyes, and it truly blesses me to be there! I wish I could be part of making that magic happen! I cry tears of joy when I get there and cry tears of sadness when I have to leave. I can't make it through Cinderella singing "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes" without getting teary eyed, and the same goes for when ANY of the princesses give my granddaughter hugs / kisses. We were there in December, and we took our 2 year old granddaughter to the character greetings at EPCOT before our lunch with the princesses at Askerhaus. The last character was Mary Poppins. Our granddaughter was so excited to meet her, but the children in front of her took too long, so by the time it was her turn, all of the characters went for a break. We were going to wait, since this is pretty common. But the cast member said Mary wouldn't be coming back because she was due in England at 1:00 and would be taking a lunch first. When we told her that we had reservations at Askerhaus at 1:00 so we'd have to catch up with Mary another time, she asked if we wanted her to at least try to catch her & have her sign our granddaughter's autograph book. We said "sure, why not?" and didn't really think much of it....but 5 minutes later, the cast member came back and whispered "follow me..." We did, and Mary had actually come back out for a couple of minutes JUST TO SEE OUR GRANDDAUGHTER! Now, that may not seem like a big deal, but when you consider that any other amusement park worker would've said "sorry about your luck"....well, that's exactly the kind of thing that makes Disney worth the trip / money! She didn't have to do that - it was cutting into her lunch time. We didn't ASK her to do that; we had three days left on our vacation and were perfectly willing to come back another time. Our granddaughter wasn't crying or anything like that...she was getting ready to go have lunch with the princesses and had accepted that we'd come back later to find Mary. But it's little touches like that - the extra mile most cast members will go for the guests - that makes Disney magical! I think one of the big reasons it is more expensive is park admission. If you are planning on taking a family vacation somewhere, you often plan on seeing the sites of that city. This usually includes at least some free things. For example, when we went to D.C., nearly everything we did was free. Plus, once you get inside the parks, everything is more expensive. So your food and souvenirs budget is increased for nothing extra. Same way if you stay on Disney property. There's a lot of perks, but buying anything on the property is more expensive than off. It's a great place to go, but it is definitely expensive! |
