Want to know more about Epcot's now-defunct rides: World of Motions and Horizons? |
Travel Info In 1999 World of Motions was replaced with Test Track and in year something Horizons was demolished to make space for Mission: SPACE. Unfortunately, I have never gone to Epcot prior to 2006 so I don't know about those to rides. What are those two attractions about? Simulators? Dark rides? Or what? Travel Tips I'll do better than tell you about it...buckle up! Horizons http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbxrvsg8t... This was a great ride that imagined what the future might be like. It quickly became retro but I think it was the quintessential epcot ride. It almost summed up what the park is about. World of Motion http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvcfiop9b... The same type of ride as Horizons and Spaceship Earth except taking you through the history of travel. This was the first disney world ride I ever went on and I always remember one of the first scenes was some cave men making a wheel. Both these rides were really immersive and although I like the odd thrill ride, I can't help but feel the destruction of this slow educational type was a bad idea. Others I don't remember World of Motions (so it musn't have been that great) but Horizons was one of my favorite rides at EPCOT before they shut it down! You would sit in this little two person car/pod kind of thing with an open front and a little control panel in front of you. It was very slow moving and you would go through various scenes that involved various future technology. (which is all pretty dated now!) I remember one of the rooms was this scene where there were machines picking oranges and you would smell this artifical orange smell (kind of like that orange air freshener they spray in hotels! hahah) If you've ever been on the ride in the big Golf Ball in Epcot its kind of like that, except you don't go up as high. But its that same slow moving format with random stuff going on in front of you. Or think like The Haunted Mansion ride at Disney without all the scary stuff. At the end of Horizons three buttons would light up in front of you and your car would be in front of this little movie screen (each two person car got their own and it would move at the speed of your car) You got to choose which "ending" you wanted to take you back home, either Desert, Space, or Underwater. That was my favorite part, because it was fun getting a choice. Then it would show you this little video about how you got back to the present day or something. I haven't been on that ride in forever, but I can't believe you asked about it, because anytime someone mentions Mission Space I complain that they took out my favorite ride at Epcot.. Horizons!! have lived in Orlando my whole life, I went to EPCOT all the time back in the day! Horizons and World of Motion were both great rides. World of Motion was a "car-styled" ride vehicle that took you through the history of automobiles. Then, at the end, you got to walk through a GM "concept" area where you got to see some of the stuff GM is working on in concept and how a new vehicle came into being.
