Florida Temps??

Travel Info
I wanted to visit florida for the first time this year. Some family just moved down there. I wanted to go this summer, but due to a new job I can not. I was thinking about going down sometime between christmas and New Years. However, I was wondering the weather. I really want to be able to go to the beach and go swimming.

I'm going to Clearwater. Will that be possible at the end of December?

Travel Tips
Florida in December varies but most times we've been the temperature is cold (jacket weather) in the morning and then it warms up to low 70's during the afternoon hours and gets cold again at night. Our daughter swam in the pool in the afternoon hours last year but the year before it was too cold to even consider it.

Not really , the water is cold in December . On some days the weather is nice in Dec. but the water is cold . I see people in the water in Dec. so I guess it depends on your body temp. !
Clearwater can oftentimes get into the 80s in December, although the average high is 70. The problem with swimming will be the water temp. It will average in the 60s during December/January, so even if you're used to cold water, this would probably be a bit too cold.

If it's unusually cold in the states north of Florida at the end of December, it will be cooler than usual in Orlando. It could be 80 degrees down there at that time of year, or it could be in the 50's or 60's or even colder. I remember once around Christmas it snowed about an inch in Orlando, then another time I was jogging in 80 degree temp on Christmas Day..
Ok, I have lived in Tampa for 10 years. If you want to visit and go to the beach and swim, your best bet is May to early June. The water temps can be in high 60's / low 70's but the air temp is nice and the humidity has not kicked in yet. December can be cold-like 50's for air temp and water temp is definitely in the 50's. The air temps can be in the 70's but not every day. There is nobody in Gulf in December. If your family has a heated pool go ahead and swim.
