we stayed there 2 years ago and loved it so much we are going back next year. The rooms are nice but it is the grounds that make this place special they are lovely and always seem so peaceful with plenty of wildlife around .The main pool is good fun but there is also several smaller ones with laundry facilities next to them which was very handy. There is a boat that takes you to downtown disney and although it takes slightly longer than the bus it is a lovely trip.We left a tip for the maid every day and she use to make towel animals or arrange the kids soft toys for them . i am sure you will have a great time at this resort , i cannt wat to go back myself

We actually leave on Thursday and are staying at Port Orleans Riverside. This is my first time, however, my husband has stayed there when it was Dixie Landings. What I can tell you is that it has gorgeous grounds and is very serene and quite. The last time we were in Disney my family went there to have breakfast at Boatwright's (they have awesome breakfasts) then decided to walk around a bit. I fell in love with it and we decided that the next time we go, we are staying there. What is so great about this resort is that eventhough it is one of Disney's Moderate Resorts, it looks as if it could be a Deluxe. I love the looks of the Mansions, they look like they are right out of Gone with the Wind and Alligator Bayou is so unique and quaint. The one thing my kids are really excited about this resort is that they can first take a ferry over to Downtown Disney and they can swim at Riverside's sister resort Port Orleans French Quarter. Normally Disney does not allow pool hopping within resorts, however, there is a few exceptions. With all the info that I have found on the internet about this resort, I am very excited about going. We usually stay at one of the Deluxes when we go, but decided to save some money this time so we picked this resort. I don't think I will be disappointed. You should check out either allears.net or wdwinfo.com, these two sites have wonderful pictures of the resort and a ton of info too. Have a blast going.
I stayed there for several years as one of the sponsors of the Senior Class at the school at which I taught. I found the rooms to be very nice, but perhaps a bit small. They have different sizes of rooms, though. The facility is a bit spread out, but very well managed. We were getting a group rate, so I can't really comment on the price, but I'd recommend it. I've also stated at Dixie Landings.
If you want to pay the same price, go to Dixie Landings instead.

MUCH better pools, rooms, and environment.

Port Orleans has been showing its age for years, I'm still amazed they keep the place going.
What everyone else is referring to as 'Dixie Landings' is now Port Orleans Riverside. It is my favorite resort on Walt Disney World property, not to mention the prettiest. Try to get into the Magnolia Bend section of the resort. Those are the rooms that are located in the big white and green buildings that look like Southern plantation homes.

The Aligator Bayou section is just as nice, but decorated a bit differently. I've heard referred to as more 'rustic' than the other section. I've stayed in both and loved each.

I've found the rooms there to be very nice, quiet, and clean. Most are within walking distance of a bus stop, (the buses run on a regular schedule to the theme parks, water parks and Downtown Disney). There is also a wonderful pool/recreation area here, and you can walk over to Port Orleans French Quarter and use their pool as well. It has a water slide that resembles a sea serpent.

Have fun!
Alligator Bayou? I stayed there last year for my 22nd Bday.

Survival Tips:

1) bring an umbrella- In central Florida rains a lot and once you park your car, you room might be VERY far away. When we checked in it was raining a a lot and Alligator was very far away from the lot.

2)you will get lost- There are two Port Orleans Hotels, Riverside and French Quarter and they coexist. Once you park your car or walk to your room from the lobby you will be doing a lot of walking.

3) it is a gourgeous hotel- the rooms are awesome. it was my very first experience in a moderate hotel st disney and it was great. The beds are so cute and the decoration is charming.

4) get a map, you will get lost! (I can't emphasize that enought)
