I would like to move to the clearwater, tampa, st. pete area this summer, I am concerned about my 16 yr old son who will be a junior, his is used to a small safe school that is highly rated, I hear the schools in florida are not the same, could anyone suggest a school that would be good for him?

In the public school system there is Seminole High School. Two Catholic high schools (open to non Catholics also) are St Petersburg Catholic and Clearwater Catholic. The better environment and education is with the private schools. The public schools are for the most part large and in general not of the caliber you find in other states. Of course there are exceptions. I believe the St Petersburg Times just ran an article regarding the schools and rankings. The state also has a ranking system in place which you should be able to find with a search. FCAT may be a key to that information. My kids have gone to both types of schools with the private getting the upper hand. I know that St. Pete Cath place 98% of this year's senior class in college. |
