Help with State Parks from Florida to Indiana? Any great suggestions as we travel North? |
Travel Info A family emergency requires we drive up to Schererville Indiana from Winter Haven Florida. We have a Winnebago trailing a bass boat and a big ole Chevy truck I get to drive packed with heavy tools and then there is the dog... If you have any ideas to add to our plan we could really use them. I do not do too long haul in one day. *his Mom was diagnosed w/ lung cancer yesterday Appreciate any comments I am lost here on the mainland and really not comfortable going under diress like this now. TY How did I go so far wrong?? Anyway that's the scoop and any travel tips will help ease my worries at this point. Travel Tips Sorry about the mother. Hope she's as well as can be. Stop by Altamaha State Park in Tattnall County, in Reidsville, on Route 57/23 which is accessible from US 301 north from the Florida state line, or from Exit 90 or Old Clyde Road which is Route 144 west from I-95, just north of the first exit for Richmond Hill. Magnolia State Park is also accessible off of 301 North. Exit junction on 46 just south of Statesboro. Nice restaurants and coffee shops in Statesboro (it's home to Georgia Southern University). Go to the Parks web sites in the respective states you wish to travel through, for more information. If you travel north into North Carolina on I-95, stop at the rest stop for info. You can head from there to the junction which will let you take the highway, I think it's I-40, to Asheville and Cherokee North Carolina. Don't worry. See if the rest stop attendants can help you get telephone numbers for AARP, AAA, and Traveller's Aide Society. There is no adventure without a little risk. Enjoy your travels. There are lots of really good parks in Georgia - which might be a good stopping point on the first day out from Winter Haven. In my experience, Georgia State Parks are really nice, well-maintained, and reasonable. Good luck www.gastateparks.org |
