Why was it closed???? |
Travel Info Can anyone tell me why the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea ride in Disney World was closed? Travel Tips Well the main reason was it was costing a fortune to chlorinate all that water. Disney also constantly does studies to see how many people are drawn to the park by certain rides.. and 20,000 was very dated and their "cost vs. return" report showed it wasn't pulling enough people in to justify the cost of upkeep. Then after they closed it they realized it was going to be very expensive to drain it and take it down, that's why it sat there for 10 years untouched before demolition. http://www.orlandofloridasucks.com... Others Lack of riders. and maintenance problems. Basically, it wasn't selling enough rides to be worth the cost of keeping it running. Probably also due to the fact that it wasn't contemporary. I didnt know there was such a ride, where was it located and what did it consist of? Here is a information link http://www.solarius.com/dvp/wdw/20k.htm... As far as I understand the attendance on the ride was way down over the years. Also the ride had finally aged enough that it needed to be replaced or rebuilt. The original plan was to have a whole big grand thing Pooh-land, now it is just a play ground. Part of the whole leaner-meaner Disney I guess, no need for ride maintenance, no need for operators, or parts. They must have saved a bundle. Unfortunately, people stopped riding it and it was expensive to keep up. If you think about the technology of the rides now, it was pretty outdated. I still went on it because I have fond memories, but compared to Pirates of the Caribbean and some of th other rides it was lacking. We always have our memories! |
