DisneyWorld (Florida) over Thanksgiving?

Travel Info
We're planning a trip to DisneyWorld over Thanksgiving. It's parks are open on Thanksgiving, right? (Our son's bday is on Thanksgiving, that's why I'm asking) What's the best place to stay at to get a shuttle to the parks? Thanks!

Travel Tips
Yes, Walt Disney World is open for the Thanksgiving holiday. Unfortunately, it is one of the most crowded times of the year (only the Christmas holiday is worse). Be prepared for long lines and long waits for all the good rides. The best place to stay is definitely at one of the Disney resorts because they'll pick you up from the airport and take you back free of charge, and all Disney transportation inside the parks (busses, monorails, water taxis) is free, not to mention the fact that Disney transportation is more available, so you'll have less wait going to and from your hotel/resort. And it's not as expensive to stay on Disney property as you might think. Call 1-407-W-DISNEY and ask about a package deal that includes your stay, park passes, and maybe a few extras like meals or behind-the-scenes tours. Other Travel Tips
Yes, the park is open and Crowded...It's the kick off for the Christmas Holidays....and Disney does it like no one else.

Hurry, alot of the better resorts/hotels may be sold out already.
that is a very busy time, any chance going the week after, that is one of the slowest times, also they tape the Christmas parade the first sat of dec.park is very busy but the kids get a real kick of watching it Christmas day, looking to see if they are there.
Disney is ALWAYS open! Definitely on Thanksgiving, for holiday season kick-off!

If you stay on Disney property, you can use their buses, monorail, boats, to get around. You can also take advantage of Extra Magic Hours to get into the parks early or stay late.

If you stay off-property, there are the Downtown Disney hotels that provide free bus service. Other area hotels also offer free shuttle service, but be aware that if you stay anywhere other than on-property, the buses run less frequently and are less often on schedule than Disney's buses. From my experience, if I was not staying on Disney property, I would rent a car. Off-site transportation is not very good.
If it's your son's birthday, I'd really recommend staying on Disney property. There are so many resorts to choose from, going from the super deluxe to the very nice and reasonable. Being on property gives you so many benefits. The main one, when you are tired, it is so nice to be able to catch a bus, ferry or monorail and conveniently go back to your resort instead of waiting for your shuttle's pick up.
Tell the people at the resort it's his birthday. He'll get a sticker and everyone will wish him a happy birthday all day long. One more bit of advice, don't forget to go ahead and make your restaurant reservations. You don't want to be waiting for an hour or more.
Have a great trip, a happy Thanksgiving and a great birthday celebration.
The parks are open everyday of the year and will be crowded. The best place to stay during the holiday season is on disney property if you can and all Disney owned resorts offer free transportation to the parks. Knowing that you are going on a big holiday, I would recommend making all your dining priority seating and/or reservations in advance.
