Who can tell me about Ottawa?

Travel Info
I think I would like to relocate to Canada. I'm looking for peace and quiet, safety, diversity, rural housing close to recreational activities and great schools for my kids.

Travel Tips
You just gave a perfect description of Ottawa. There are tons of great schools here, there's all kinds of fun recreational activities to keep people of all ages occupied, the diversity of people from all walks of life and from various parts of the world live here, the crime rate is very low compared to other major Canadian cities so its safe, and Ottawa is in the top 5 most affordable places to live in the country. Come on down. The more, the merrier.
Others
you will find it all in Ottawa but even more sio in Montr茅al and/or Toronto.
If peace and quite is important , Montreal or Toronto are not where you want to relocate.
If rural housing close to recreational activities is also important, Ottawa would be better but you might want to relocate to a smaller city yet.
I live in Regina (pop 200 000) and you can get anywhere in the city in 15 minutes.
You could live outside the city and still have easy access to any of the city's recreational facilities.
KirkX and Camille are both right.
Ottawa is a beautiful city. I live just outside of Toronto but I spent last summer working there. The areas near the canal, around Carleton University where I stayed was extremely nice. Though I would guess it is rather expensive for housing there.

Not sure but doesn't that seem kind of contradictory what you're asking? Rural housing but close to recreation, schools and other amenities? I guess you'd just have to look to the outskirts and perhaps you could find an acerage or something of that sort. I don't know the area well, but I do know that I agree that Ottawa would be a great place to raise a family.
You pretty much summed up where I just moved to, a bit outside Ottawa.

It's great, but there're lots of other great rural/semi-rural areas outside of Ottawa. "Peace and quiet" abounds there. And, assuming you can get used to drinking beer and curling, there's loads to do...

(I grant that the areas outside the cities tend to be fairly white, but not, in anywhere I've been, to the point where anybody raises an eyebrow at somebody who's not white.)
