Does anyone know some good bars (night clubs) in downtown Ottawa...I'm going there in a few weeks? |
Travel Info People I'm going with are more into Top 40's stuff, RnB, Soca, etc...so we are looking for a place to go dancing at. Travel Tips Whiskey Bar is pretty good (it's a 21+ bar if that makes a difference), and Privledge on Elgin Street is also good. SIN is temporarily closed because their liquor license was suspended due to a number of violations. Others There are several great clubs in Ottawa which offer different styles of music on different nights. Often they have danceable music. Check out Babylon Nightclub and Barrymore's for that, ESPECIALLY if the Soul Jazz Orchestra is performing (they are often at Babylon). The Rainbow, in the market, is a blues bar which often has acts that meet what you're looking for. There are also several funky clubs which tend toward the electronic but still will have, sometimes, the music you seek - e.g. Heaven and the Mercury Lounge. For comprehensive listings, check out: www.ckcufm.com - university radio station (where I have a show!) with an excellent set of weekly music listings, plus links to most of the venues. www.ottawaxpress.ca (local weekly entertainment paper) www.punkottawa.com (don't let the name fool you - has much more music than punk, probably one of the most comprehensive) or www.pollstar.com - search under city schedule Enjoy! Personal experience As mentioned, Barrymore's is a great place because they have great bands play there along with theme nights like 80's or 90s music nights. Zaphod's in the market alternates between having live shows and dancing, so call ahead to see what's going on. Griffins on Elgin St seems really popular because its packed every time I go by there, but I've never been inside before. |
