What are some safe and clean neighborhoods to live in in Ottawa, Canada? |
Travel Info Looking for clean, safe, and vibrant areas that are close to public transportation in Ottawa (possibly moving there in the next year or so. Also, what areas should I avoid (crime problems, dirty, etc??) Travel Tips Well, downtown is getting bad. But everywhere in Ottawa has access to public transportation. People will tell you to stay away from the Vanier area (which is located at the east side of the city) and they're right. But, Vanier isn't actually as bad as it seems. Alot of people used to tell me if I ever drive through Vanier to keep my car doors locked. But I now know 2 people that live in the Vanier area and it actually isn't that bad. Yes it is the place where the majority of people on welfare live but its not as bad as it seems. But I will warn you there are certain spots on Vanier where you would not want to be. Its a big area so if you end up there just take a look around. Are the buildings decent, are their newer cars sitting in people's driveways? I found alot of Vanier if you look is actually decent. Vanier Parkway has this huge brand new hotel being built on it and a newer Loblaws. So it doesn't look too bad. The best spots in my opinion is Bells Corners, Nepean, Orleans and Kanata (but Kanata has a high car theft rate). Somewhere you MUST stay away from is Prescott-Russell county. Which is east/south in Ottawa I believe. Take everything you've ever heard about Vanier and mulitply it by 10! Best of luck! I would just suggest you take a look around when your looking for a place to live. Is there garbage and beer bottles laying around everywhere? Are the buildings falling apart? Does the landlord of the apartment look like a scum bag? If so, this it wouldn't be the best choice. =)nice town Go for the Nepean area. i actually really like kanata... it has really nice houses and stuff... some really good walking trails.. i go there like every weekend and i live like an hour away Kanata, Nepean, Barheaven Place to avoid is Vanier. |
