Getting a drivers license in Ottawa? |
Travel Info Can someone please tell me the procedure of getting a Canadian driving license in Ottawa for people who come from another country an dhave been driving for many years. I understand they must take the written and theory test again..is this so? Also when you take the actual driving test do you bring your own car or do they supply a car for you? Thanks for any details you can give me. Benta Travel Tips I have just done this process. First, if you have been driving for some years now, I'd recommend you to try to get the full G license as opposed to the G1 or G2. In order to do this you have to show a document that shows how long you have had your driver's license from your own country. In my case, I had to show a driver's record and my driver's license. They MUST be translated into English or French (by a certified Ontario translator) and MUST be certified by your embassy in Ottawa. Once you have these papers all set up, go the to driver's test on Walkley Rd. and explain this situation. You will be required to drive a written test (which is not that complicated, but it could be tricky if you are not fully familiar with the English terminology). If you pass the written test, you'll be granted a G1 license. The same day you can schedule a driven test for the G2 (the soonest will be a month later) and if you pass that test, you will be granted the full G license. Hope this was helpful.
