Travel Info I will spend my summer vacation in Ottawa, Canada. Any commendation for where to go and what to do? Travel Tips Base yourself in ottawa and start going on daytrips to kingston, montreal, algonquin park... hehe. Seriously, ottawa is pretty boring if you must stay more than a couple of days, but there's a few things you can do. Must see's: gatineau park, the casino du lac leamy over in hull, the parliament buildings, byward market, carleton university, ottawa university, the museums (there's like 30 in the city, including the national gallery and the brand spanking new war museum which is by far the coolest thing in ottawa right now). Have a nice lunch at the dow's lake pavillion and then head over to the market to do some shopping and have a fresh kilaloe sunrise beaver tail. don't do the rideau canal boat tours, they're a ripoff. it's better to rent a bike and bike around the canal. Others Well aside from the obvious tour of the Parliament Buildings, the many monuments & statues to see (especially moving are those of Terry Fox and the Canadian "sufforget" pioneers as well as the Peacekeeper and War Memorials), and the many, many museums, it is a nice town to just walk around and soak up the atmosphere. Go to the outdoor market to meet new people and have a Beaver Tale or two (it's a sweet pastry!). And don't forget to walk over to Quebec and enjoy a whole other way of life too! Ottawa is great for walkers/bikers/rollerbladers; lots of parkland and paved trails..... A perfect way to see Ottawa...on a bicycle...... Most of the main touristy sites have been listed; one missed was The Sparks Street Mall and Buskerfest. A permanently closed off section of Spark Street running east/west south of the Parliament Buildings; always a popular night-life spot during the summer. |
