Is there a ferry from Michigan to Canada? |
Travel Info I am planning my parent's anniversary, and I would like to know if and where there is a ferry from michigan's east coast to the Niagara Falls area of Canada. Travel Tips There isn't a ferry that goes from MI to Niagara falls but you can drive there from the Canadian side. To get to that side there are 2 bridges in Port Huron, one in Suit st. Marie, and one in Detroit. There is also a tunnel in Detroit and a ferry in Marine City. All of these can be found on maps. Others Ferries traverse short distances several times a day, usually in areas where a bridge would be impractical. Traveling the entire length of Lake Erie may be a good gambling- boat cruise, but it's no ferry ride. If you don't like driving, and the route through Detroit into Canada is shortest,you could take a tour bus to learn about the Canadian Shield or one that visits the wineries (mostly in NY)on the way to the Falls. You'd still get to the Canadian side by nightfall in time for the little night show, when the view is at its best. Go to the clubs, get a Baker's Dozen to snack on, the tour probably includes hotel if it's round trip. Get breakfast at the restaurant overlooking the Falls (REAL maple syrup), catch your day tour, then start home. Niagara Falls is three U.S. states away from Michigan (Ohio, Penn & New York). So I assume you mean a ferry along the length of Lake Erie. I don't know the answer to that, but it's not really worth doing. Niagara Falls in Canada is 20+ miles north of Lake Erie, so you'd have to take a bus from Fort Erie, Ontario to the Falls -- who knows if there are even ferry docks and immigration processing points along the water there. I doubt a ferry like this exists because it's impractical. It would be like having a ferry from New York city to Boston, but for 1/100th the people. For an anniversary, why not buy them a Via rail ticket to Toronto, and then buy a bus excursion to the falls. Catch the train in Windsor. www.via.ca http://www.fallsviewcasinoresort.com/... |
