Travel Tips If I remember correctly, all you need is your passport, and your driving licence, if you're driving; and your credit cards and money to spend there! Same thing on return. Others I went last summer and I had to have a passport. Another girl that went with me didn't have a passport, but she had to bring her birth certificate with her. Those rules have changed since then and now a passport is all they will accept. And yes, when you return to the U.S., you will need to have your passport ready. At the moment all you need is a drivers license and a copy of your birth certificate. Although, at some point they are going to require a passport (Last I heard). As for the way back, the same credentials will work. recent experience You need picture ID and a birth certificate to show you are a US citizen. If you were not born in the US, you will need to show your naturlization papers. George W. Bush has been doing a lot of talking about requiring passports for everyone crossing into the US, including Canadians, but hasn't put that into effect yet.
