How do I find a cheap place to stay in Downtown Ottawa? Or is it better to commute? |
Travel Info I'm a single male 25 yr old, moving away from the family to a job in Ottawa. The job is near Parliment (Slater @ Oconner). Any recomendations on how to find a cheap place? (Looking at the $500 range - all i need is 1 bedroom max) Or would you recomend a commute? (how's rush hour? Is parking free downtown?) I hear that in Quebec, there are more taxes (plus, who knows when Quebec's gonna seperate). Travel Tips $500 for a one-bedroom in Ottawa? Ask at least a dozen years ago. You wouldn't be able to find that in the suburbs, either. Parking 'free' downtown -- ! No. Think $100/mth, and a pain to find a decent price near Slater & O'Connor. Hmm. There's very little parking right there. You'd want to think about taking a bus; commutes via bus aren't too bad if you're in the right place in the suburbs... Try http://ottawa.craigslist.org/ for apartment listings, for a start. But $500 barely gets you a room to rent. The Quebec side is definitely cheaper, but, yes -- higher taxes. Others The only way you can pay $500 and live downtown is to have a couple of room mates. You best shot is to live outside of downtown and take the bus to work. Ottawa has a good transit systems, and all the main bus routes run down Slater. Hello: Go to http://www.grab2travel.com/best-hotel/ho... Enter your dates and trip detail.
