Should I bring the US dollars to US? |
Travel Info Should I exchange from sterling for the US dollars from UK before travel to US? Or I just use my debit card (Maetro and Cirrus) and make the withdrawals? Which one is more economic? Travel Tips Do not exchange but only a small amount (say $100 to $ 200) at your bank in the UK to use upon your arrival. Then use your debit card thereafter to withdraw your cash (in dollars) as needed at any ATM (Automatic Teller Machine) as you travel here in the US. Two reasons: - It's not safe to carry any large amount of cash at any time to avoid loss or theft. -Using your debit card will result in usually the best exchange rate, better than at any of the money changer's anyway. Source(s): I have traveled the world for many years. Other Travel Tips my guess is that it would be more economic to exchange cash in the UK before you go to the US Typically, you will get a better rate from the bank if you use your debit card. Cirrus is taken at most ATM's here in the US. The best exchange rate is usually with traveler's checks exchanged at a bank and is usally more economical. I would recommend that you exchange the money once you arrive at the airport, but only enough to last a day or two until you can get to a bank. Most banks here are open from 9-5 Monday through Friday and some are open from 8-12 on Saturdays. |
