How do you prevent shampoo or lotion containers from exploding when flying? |
Travel Info Everytime I fly and pack my toiletries, there is always one lotion container that explodes. I keep them covered in a plastic bag to prevent the spread of the explosion but how do I prevent the explosion itself? Travel Tips The pressure in the lotion and shampoo is building up to a point that it leaks out any small space that it can. I have successfully avoided the leaks by squeezing as much air out of the bottle as possible before flight. Don't take any bottles filled to the top. Make sure there is enough room for you to squeeze the bottle and leave the bottle a bit "concave". This space will fill with air while in flight, and then go back to the way you packed it when you land. I would definitely always have the plastic bag as a back up in case of the "explosion". Others PUT THE SHAMP0O/C0NDiTi0NER, L0Ti0N AND ALL TH0SE KiND 0F BEAUTY PR0DUCT`Sz iNT0 A PLASTiC BAG AND SEAL iT REALLY TiGHT. THEN WHEN Y0U PACK UP ALL Y0UR STUFF, PUT THE BAG UNDERNEATH ALL Y0UR CL0THE`Sz AND WHAT EVER iS iN Y0UR LUGGAGE. iT W0RK`Sz F0R ME AND i TRAVEL A L0T. AND N0T 0NCE HAS ANY 0F MY STUFF EXPL0DED. The pressure is screwing with your containers. You could always unscrew the top a bit but it really doesn't solve your problem as then it will leak. I always put each bottle of lotion, shampoo, etc. in it's own ziploc baggy and buy the sample sizes. The pressurization often does that. Be sure to place the lotions creams, nail polish, in zip lock type bags. Use separate bags for each item, then put them all in one larger plastic bag. Pack them carefully to minimize other items pressing down on them en route. It also helps to tape over the lids before placing them in the plastic bags. Maybe you could think about not taking anything in your luggage and then buying it when you arrive at your destination? I know of a lady that does this and then leaves it behind for the chambermaids (especially in the not-so-well-off countries) Or you could buy sample sizes and use them up if you don't feel comfortable leaving them behind. Also, if you think you will need something right away, before you can get out and shop, some hair salons will give you small plastic sample packets of shampoo and conditioner. These won't explode. |
