What do we need to show at the passport checkpoint upon arrival in the US flying from Europe? |
Travel Info My friend is not a US citizen. She has a visa and we have heard that she needs a health certificate, but we need to know more details. Travel Tips It depends what country you are from. It's wise to have proof of booked accomodation, a return portion of your ticket, enough funds to cover your stay in the US and if you think there might be a problem you should provide evidence that you intend to return home. Most European countries don't require a VISA as you can use the 90 day VISA waiver form - assuming you have never been deported from the US before or haven't committed any crimes, not a drug dealer etc! It's easier too if you have a machine-readable passort (one with a bar code at the bottom). When you get there you will have to have filled out the appropriate waiver and customs forms (supplied on the plane); tell them why you are visiting (business/pleasure); what you will be doing; where you will be staying etc. They will take a photo and electronic fingerprints of both index fingers. They may also ask more questions if they are not satisfied that you are a bona fide tourist. Be prepared to queue if you are entering a busier airport!
