Help with moving.? |
Travel Info Hi, I'm moving from SF to NYC. My stuff is not that much to use the moving company, I won't bring any furniture with me to NYC. But It's too much to pack it all in suitcases, and the airport has a weight limit. Is there any other options? Travel Tips The airline itself does have a weight limit for checked luggage; however, you can make arrangements to send the rest of it via cargo on that same airline. It is not as expensive as excess luggage, especially now that the airlines are limiting domestic passengers to 50 pounds. Give your airline a call to see what the rules are, as they differ from carrier to carrier (e.g., Southwest requires that you are a "registered shipper," which takes some extra paperwork up front). Amtrak also allows for cargo shipping, and is cheaper in many instances. Others I don't know if this would work in the U.S., but I have moved across Canada a couple of times by sending packages to myself through the post office. This has cost me about $700 - $1000 Canadian, with about a dozen reasonably large boxes (2 cu. ft. boxes from self-storage company). For this method to work, you need to send the boxes a few at a time, and must have a "receiving address" at the other end, such as your new job, or a friend or relative who is willing to pick up the boxes and hold them for you until you arrive. It also forces you to prioritize what is really important to you, and what you are willing to "let go of", when you pay by the box to send your stuff. Good Luck! Two Options. Ship it by frieght. You can ship 1 palet at a time. or Use a carg cantainer service such as Pods http://www.pods.com/subpages/moving.asp... |
