Birth Certificate Question URGENT!?

I need to know immediately if I can (in the state of wisconsin) walk into the courthouse in the county where I was born and get a copy of my birth certificate on the spot. I'm leaving for Canada tomorrow, and I'm told I will need it (i don't have a passport)

Many counties offer a same day service for in-person birth certificate applications. You'll have to check the website for the county in question to see if they offer this. A list of the various websites for the counties in Wisconsin can be found at:

Alternatively,you could also apply at the vital records office in Madison, which definitely offers a same day service if your request is received before 2 PM.

Other Travel Tips
You will need to call the state but I know that in MO you have to go to the state health department but in KS you have to go to the Capital.. So I would call the local Health Department and ask them..
You can try, but typically it takes up to 8 weeks. I don't believe they will let us into Canada anymore without a passport.
As American Citizens we can still travel back and forth to Canada with a photo ID. I live on the border and the rules are scheduled to change but have not as of this date. Get your passport application at any Post Office, and get it processed when you get back. It'll be a fact of life sooner than later.
Do not listen to anyone, you do NOT get a birth certificate from the county courthouse. Go to your local Vital Records or Vital Statistics office (usually located in a Health Department building), and in most cases they can print you a new birth certificate within 10 minutes. If that doesn't work, you can always use vitalchek.com and order one within a few minutes, but it will cost extra for expedited shipping.
