How much will it cost to ship our stuff rom Vancouver (Canada) to Copenhagen by ship? |
Travel Info I am relocating for 3-4 years. We wonder how much it would cost to ship our stuff in a container. Things like our mattress, linens, clothes, some pieces of furniture (the good stuff), keepsakes, etc. Some people say sell everything and buy new... but stuff is expensive in Denmark and we have some nice things. Odds are we'd spend $$$ on storage anyway if we didn't ship it. Anyone have an idea? I know we could send smaller things through post. Also, will dishes and fragile items be safe on containers (of course packed right!)... also how do we get our stuff on and off one of these things? Vancouver, BC to Copenhagen. Travel Tips hey try to use a LTL company like Yellow or BSP or run a search for a freight company you pretty much just have to package your stuff on pallets but they do the rest for shipping and you don't have to worry about boats or airplanes or what ever just make sure you get insurance for it because i don't know how good you can trust the carriers in other countries Source(s): work for an LTL company Other Travel Tips Try this for starters: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/packing_%26... Also consider contacting the Canadian equivalent of the Department of Transportation as they should have information on Household Goods Movers (carriers that move furniture and stuff) Cost is going to vary wildly based on a number of condions. Of most importance is the size and weight of what you're moving. It can be pretty expensive but probably cheaper than replacing everything. If you are relocating as part of your job then see if the company you work for has contractted rates with a moving company. Good luck. These days the cost of shipping more than a few hundred km. is almost independent of distance. A couple of months back, here in NZ we met a guy from England who'd shipped his vintage car here for a rally. It would have required a shipping container. It cost him 2000 pounds sterling for the round trip, so your gear would probably cost about half this. Hire professional packers like Pickfords. Come to think of it, they'd probably handle everything, including packing, insurance and shipping. Last time I shipped my household effects was from Britain to NZ in 1980. I drove them to the packers in London in a borrowed truck and picked them up in Lyttelton a few months later. I waited while customs cleared them and drove away with them. Simple. Since you'll probably need a container anyway, my advice is to send everything together except what you'll need immediately you arrive. We had no trouble with fragile items. |
