I there a limit on how much cash you can take on a domestic flight? |
Travel Info I there a limit on how much cash you can take on a domestic flight? Travel Tips Unless you are afraid of putting money in the bank I would suggest using a bank account to carry your money electronically. Laws are only important if they can be enforced. Nobody will know if you have a money belt full of $100 or $500 bills unless you tell them. Others No more than 10,000. Whether or not you run afoul of specific laws, you may be deemed suspicious if you're carrying a large amount of cash. I remember a story on 60 Minutes years ago, about a man who had large sum of cash confiscated from him by the government (FBI, I believe) because of a "suspicion"--NOT PROOF--that it was to be used in drug trafficking. He claims that wasn't his intention at all, and he had a believable story, but he had to prove his innocence through a lengthy and costly legal procedure. He didn't have the money to pursue the matter, so he had to forfeit the money that was confiscated. Post 9/11, I'd think you'd be even more of a target for overzealous law enforcement, if you carry a large sum of cash. I'd put it in the bank and use a debit card. no, International is a different situation, each country does have its limits on what you can bring in with you. |
