Travel Tips You should check the bag tags when you're checking in at the airport and be sure that the tag is marked for Santo Domingo. You should have your name and contact information inside the bag and on the outside. If you are flying several flights with transfers, try to not have tight connections as that increases your chances that your bag might not make the switch. If you are changing airlines, be sure that the first airline will check it all the way through to SD (some will only check part of the way). When you switch planes, ask the gate agent to call the loading area to see if your bag has been sent to that gate/plane for loading. Some people I know will check their bag until each destination and recheck it (they obviously have long layovers) -- I dont' think that is practical. If it's really important and you're really uncertain that your bag will make it, I've also known people who use UPS or Fedex (or a baggage delivery service) to send their bag ahead directly to the hotel -- colleagues have done this for presentations or key materials that are needed for the trip. I also have a distinctly colored bag so that it's not as likely to be confused (should it get lost and I have to describe it to an agent).
