Should you take your passport on a domestic flight?

Travel Info
should you lose your drivers license on trip,, what other form of ID will airport officials accept. or would I be stranded in a city hundreds of miles away, if PR, alaska or Hi: thousands.

Travel Tips
I always have my passport with me when I fly (and a driver's license). I also have electronic copies of both in a file in an email to myself that I can easily download a photocopy if I ever lose. I also keep a list of key numbers for credit cards, frequent flyer miles, etc., with me (encrypted by me...I've rearranged the order in a specific way so if somone else found it, they wouldn't know the actual number).

I once was robbed in Senegal and it was easy to have an emergency passport issued. It was harder for me to get my license renewed since I wasn't living in the US at the time.

A college or military ID also works. I believe it is supposed to be government-issued ID so I'd be nervous to use a gym card membership or something else (although if you are desperate, it might work). I would also think that if you are travelling domestically and you have the police report stating that your IDs were lost, etc., that would also suffice for a domestic flight. It would not work for an international flight (you'd need emergency travel documentation).

I was going to be a wise*"+%莽 and say "not unless you plan on being hijacked".

I would carry something with a photo I.D. You can use your passport. But don't lose it!
any legally approved photo Id should do. Passport is not a must, but better carry and be careful not to lose it.
No, you dont have to bring your passport if you dont want to. The airport will take any picture ID with your name on it.
Well if you lose your passport, then you will be in more trouble than if you lose your driver's liscence. My advise to to NOT take your passport.

If you lose your liscence, then chances are that you have probably lost your wallet or purse aswell, in which case having a passport is quite useless.

There are ways of checking your identity if things turn out to be bad, so don't panic yourself over this issue. Worse things can happen like losing socks or drinking too much beer!
