Will my passport come in time?

Another passport question, I know there's plenty of those...sorry.

I'm an American and I applied 2 months ago and didn't get it expedited. The nice lady at the post office told me I'd have the passport in my hands in 2 months, but it's not even in the system yet. If I'm leaving for Europe in 6 weeks, do you think I have a shot in hell of getting my passport in time? If not, what are some options? I have searched every website but haven't found much info that has helped since it wasn't expedited. Oh and I don't really live anywhere near any of the regional passport facilities, so that's not really an option. I'm just an elementary school teacher and I don't have enough money to spend on these fancy $300 passport agencies....

Thanks. I know...how stupid am I to assume planning 3.5 months in advance would be enough time? BLAH.

The nice lady at the post office gave you bad information.

It is currently taking 12 to 14 weeks for a non-expedited passport application to be processed. It takes about a month for an expedited application.

Also, the fact your check has not been cashed MAY indicate your application has gone astray. However, there are 6 weeks before your trip and that is plenty of time.

Call the office of your US Representative (Congressman) tomorrow (Monday). Ask for their help in communicating with the passport agency. Call the offices of one or both of your US Senators if you don't get immediate attention from the staff of your US Representative.

I don't understand about it not being in the system. I applied (about the same time you did) and have had a tracking # since about 10 days after I sent it in. My check was cashed in 7 days. I would suggest you see if YOUR check was cashed and call your congressional Rep or Senator. I called mine before I sent mine in so they may have been waiting for mine....I am leaving when you are.
wow 2 months to get your passport?

I got it within a week to make a new one and in case i need speedy renewal - there's an one night service :)
