Leaving for europe in a week- any last minute tips? |
Travel Info i'm a little nervous about being so far from home! (going on an 11 day guided tour through england, france, switzerland + italy) Travel Tips don't buy currency at the airport. The exchange rate is horrible. Heathrow airport is laid out stupidly and you will walk a LONNNNNNNNG way to change planes...be prepared and give yourself a lot of time. Duty free at Heathrow is still not a bargain, as tempting as it may seem. Bring your ATM card and use that to get cash at ATM's as you need it. The exchange rate is better and you don't have to carry wads of cash. Also, keep in mind that a lot of the souvenirs you may be tempted to buy aren't even made in Europe and the same junk may actually be cheaper in the US. Swiss chocolate is appreciated by most everyone as a "hey I got you something" gift, look for brands and varieties that are not available in the US. A real crowd pleaser is the Lindt Cuban chocolate. Source(s): I go to Europe a lot on business (7 times last year). Other Travel Tips Watch out for pick-pockets and scammers. Keep your passport as safe as possible. Never sleep on the train if you're not with someone who is looking out for you and your belongings. Yes, don't forget to pack in a camera, and a french english dictionary. and try to know about the history of the french revolution, and all the cathedrals. We always tell people to pack light.... if you forget something, you'll be able to get it there. Here is our basic packing list with the "amenities and necessities" we generally take: http://www.mousetourstravels.com/basic-p... Don't forget that you need to pack with today's security alerts in mind: http://www.mousetourstravels.com/travel-... Wear a money belt to protect your credit cards, ATM card and Passport. http://www.mousetourstravels.com/money.h... Leave your jewelry at home. Take adaptor plugs for any electrical appliances you have. Try to talk to some locals, relax and enjoy yourself. Happy travels... even if you don't travel the world... just remember that life is a journey... embrace and enjoy it! http://www.mousetourstravels.com... Just relax, it's a guided tour. What are you nervous about? This isn't some third world country that you are visiting. My best tip as a European is try as much of the local food as possible, stay away from McD and puhlease: Dress properly! Look around you what's fashionable right now and dress accordingly. One can e.g. always pick out American tourists by the white sneakers they wear. Enjoy.. |
