What is the best make and size of hiking backpack for travelling (for a month in Thailand)?

Travel Info
I'm travelling around Thailand for a month and need to buy a backpack for my travels, not sure wheree to start looking, what size is appropriate, what make is best. I am a student so, obviously do not want to spend too much money on it!

Travel Tips
For a month in Thailand you won't need to carry much - so anything around 45 to 55 litres will suffice ...

Karimoor have a 35-50 litre Global that might be ok ...they include a cheap 'n cheerful day pack too.

You want one that is durable, plenty of pockets with 2 sections, and especially good and comfortable on your back in case you are carrying it around all day ...

Also, have a look at good quality second hand ones on eBay ... just make sure the name is good like North Face, Karimoor, Berghaus, Deuter etc!

I would also suggest you ask on the Lonely Planet Thorntree - Gear section ...

Other Travel Tips
go to a jumble sale and buy the oldest tattiest scruffy on you can get because if you go with a new one ,
you may as well walk around with a big sign saying

"I'M A TOURIST PLEASE ROB ME !!!!!!!!!!!!"
I agree with Helen - a new backpack is asking for trouble!

If you can't find a ratty backpack at a jumble sale and have to get a new one, don't spend a fortune on it. As long as it feels like it could take a good kicking, buy it, take it home... and give it that good kicking in the street or your garden to take the shine off and add some character.

Carry the smallest size you think you can manage with. The less you pack the better off you are. Any clothes or cosmetics (shampoo, etc.) can be purchased in Thailand for a lot less than wherever it is you're travelling from.

While you're at it, keep your guidebook out of public view, too. Waving one of those about is like using a megaphone to shout "I'm new here and I haven't got a clue!".
look on ebay ,i bought 1 for my nephew from there and it was very cheep , i bought 110kilo as he was going away for a year . to get your laundry done in thailand its cost 10baht per item or 50 a kilo
to buy a good t/shirt it,s @ 200baht ,the more you buy the cheeper it will be
just back on sunday from my 6th trip
