Passport issue? |
Travel Info Wow, this has been a great experience. Ok. We went to get the passports for our minor children. Applied on June 8, the court clerk mailed it out June 12. We ordered Expedited Service, of course. It was supposed to go to Seattle Passport agency (I saw the clerk packing up the envelopes). I am checking the tracking number online - it is in LA. Wtf, pardon my French? It has been 2 weeks since we applied and there is no freaking answer whatsoever. We are leaving on July 1 and I really would like to find out what a hell is going on. My question: when you applied for a passport, have you received any confirmation letters or emails or phone calls? I checked online and there is no data for our kids.... Because of the recent change in border policy, (everyone was required to have a passport to go into Canada and Mexico which has never been done before) a lot of people have applied for passports over the last few months. Consequently the government has been overloaded with passport requests. This is why they have extended the date for the Mexico & Canada requirement. I heard on the radio the other day that passports ordered without expedited service are taking up to six months to be delivered. Passports with expedited service are taking anywhere from 2-4 months. You will have to call them to find out what to expect for your particular situation, but you could have a real problem on your hands. A lot of people have been canceling vacations because of this. Other Travel Tips that exact problem was just on the news tonight. it takes 8-12 weeks to get a passport. it used to be 6-8 weeks, so when I ordered my passport last July, I ordered expedited service and it took 2 weeks...so i'd say given all the problems they are having now, expedited service is like 4 weeks. it's just my opinion, hope it works out better for you and your family. good luck to you. |
