Travel Tips you dont need an ID birth cirtificates are public knowledge...i could get yours if i had the social security number...scary, yes...but still true...you just need to get a hold of the county clerk where you were born and ask for a copy, here in San Diego, CA its about $15 Others You have to get ahold of the county court house where you were born. Go to the department of vital records for your state. I live in New Mexico so it is the New Mexico State Department of Vital Records. This department is usually located in the capital cities of each state. Submit a letter, stating your full name including any middle names, the date and time you were born, city you were born and your mother and father's name. You will not need to submit your weight or measurements at the time of your birth. Sometimes there is a fee for this request so make sure you submit the required fee and it takes anywhere for 2-3 weeks to process. Sample: To whom it may concern: My name is _________ and I am requesting a certified copy of my birth certificate. I was born on ________(month) _______(day) in _______(year) at __________(time) in ____________(city & state) to _______________(mother's full name including maiden) and ________________(father's full name). If there is any other information you will need, please contact me at ___________ (phone) or _______________(give your full address) Enclosed is the fee of ___________(you will have to find out what they charge) for processing. I have never tried to get a copy in person as I work during regular business hours and have never had any issues requesting certified copies via the mail. Good Luck.
