when you renew your passport do you need your old one to send off to them or for any reason?

Passport was due to be renewed in May, can't find it need to renew it?

yes normally you would

declare it as lost , as that is important
to prevent any one else from using it.

and send off for your new one weeks before you need to with origional documents, no photocpies.
But it takes about 6 weeks to get it back
don,t need old one but it helps.
do you have the serial code written down for old one?
if not you will have to get someone to verify you just like first and send off b/cert and other proof.

if you have changed address since last passport then it get,s a bit harder to renew.

when you send off old p/port it comes back to you with corner cut off so it can,t be used again, if you,ve lost it they may ask in writeing when and how you lost it,.

even if you have no need to renew do it now any way because the prices go up from october 2007 and you may as well get the process over with now rather than leave it to later.

if you do renew keep a copy of serial number and give to trusted member of family or very trusted friend. then if anything happens to passport or god forbid to you abroad that person has that as a record.
anything you need to renew, you will still need to show them your old one
you need to declare it lost or stolen via a form available from the Post Office or online and send the form along with the renewal application. You can do it all online though i think together.

If you do find the passport after you have sent the form off, you must cut each corners of the passport off making it invalid.
